m & m's

Another in my series of random runs of thought, with no guarantee they will be even remotely connected or that they'll still be here tomorrow afternoon...
I watched Sadie have a very intense dream tonight. So intense and so rhythmic, in fact, I began to wonder if it might not be a seizure (one of Patches' several ailments). Fortunately, it was nothing but a very intense dream. She's laying up here on the twin bed with me. I don't usually allow the dog on the bed with me but these are times that call for extraordinary measures around the MM & M household.
Have you ever really watched a dog have one of those vivid dreams, when they bark at objects only they can see and take off running after their quarry? I love to see/hear my pet being so happy, enjoying so deeply. The corners of her muzzle turned up, she started to sneer then yelp softly. Then, her eyelids cracked open just enough for me to witness the rapid eye movement. Next, the paws began their twitch. Off she went after a rabbit? Squirrel? Something luscious and deliciously crunchy, I'm sure!
I also adore the muffled barks she lets out as she tracks and chases her prey in her sleep. Is it the shepherd in her, trying to get the flock steered toward home? The Chow trying to protect her mistress and home? I have no idea what a Rottie's purpose is...
What fun...a good time was had by all!

I turned 49 last week. Tonight, I listened to Bill Morrissey's The Essential Collection. It really is! I've decided that, when I turn fifty next year, I want his song, Fifty played at my party. Dang, I wish I could find a link to the lyrics. Wha't missing in this world is a good folk music lyrics database!
Next day addendums, regrets, second thoughts and revisions:
I adore folk music and singer/songwriters, including Bill Morrissey. I wish I could find a really good lyrics database that includes folk music. The sites I've found have contemporary adult or popular music but very little folk. And folk music is so poetic. The lyrics are the primary reason I enjoy it. I mean, we don't really listen to Bob Dylan, Tom Waits or Randy Newman for their voices!
Let's see if I can manage to create that drop-down text box here on Blogger...it worked once on MSN.
by Bill Morrissey
released on The Essential Collection from Rounder Records in 2004
I turned fifty on an autumn day
The grass was brown and the sky was gray
But I never felt so strong
I turned fifty
So, come on, world, bring it on
I can't round the bases like I could
But I'm still in the game, so knock on wood
I get the jump on the pitch and I catch one more
I turned fifty
I quit keeping score
Hey you kids, this ain't no jive
But I've seen the Beatles (Pink Floyd and David Bowie, in my case) perform live
My new guitar is all hand-crafted
I turned fifty
Best of all, I can't get drafted
I don't get carded in a bar
I own my house and I own my car
I can't believe I made it this far
I turned fifty
and I still wish upon a star
Once life was a race and I had to run it
Now I know what not to do because I've done it
Well, there's too much anger and too much crap
I turned fifty
I think I'll take a nap
Sometimes I think about the days back then
But there's no return in the way-back-when
I loved them all but those days are gone
I turned fifty
So, come on, world, bring it on.
Woo-hoo! It's always so elating when these things work and I'm just becoming an HTML-modifying fool here! I added a countdown meter for GWB's last term and an AltaVista Babel Fish translator as well as Site Meter...and they all work!
Ain't life (and, by extension, blogging) grand?
