There's a New Man in my Life!

He weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces today, is eating well, has all his fingers and toes and most of his penis. He has very expressive hands and long fingers and toes...a family trait. My mother's side of the family is so dextrous, we can play Pass the Pencil with our feet! He has very dark hair and a little more of it than his father had. Despite the massive head of hair he carries now, Mike lost all his baby hair and was a cue ball (like his mother) until he was 14 months old. I hope Bren hangs on to his!
Michael was priceless, holding his son in the way only a brand-spanking new first-time father can. Very tentative, as if Brendan might break. Jennifer seems to be absolutely in love with Brendan. It brings tears to my eyes to remember how she looks at him. I felt the same way about her husband long ago. Mothering my son has been the most rewarding experience. I wish the same for Jen.
Brendan had a rough afternoon, hence the "partial" penis, so he slept the entire time I was there. But we'll have plenty of opportinities to play later. I've already promised him kite flying, bubble blowing, story telling, playing with Play-Doh and baking cookies. I can't wait!
Jen seemed more comfortable holding Brendan than Mike did. Mike has not really had a lot of baby exposure as an adult. But Jen has little or no 'boy' experience. So they're taking on diapering as a team! Is that not the most adorable thing? Mike had been at the hospital the whole time. It's so nice that he was able and allowed to do that. Neither one of them has had more than a few hours sleep since Sunday night, so they looked beat! Mike's eyes were all bloodshot and Jen looked tired as well. But they were both so terribly happy it was almost unbearable.
I love these kids so much and adore their little one! Welcome to the world, little Brendan! I'm glad Im your Nana.
